P-40E, OO-WHK

Le P-40 est un avion de chasse emblématique souvent associé aux « Tigres volants » du Général Claire Chennault.

This Curtiss P-40E Warhawk, serial number 41-13570, is a notable combat veteran from World War II with a storied history. Initially delivered to the Soviet Air Forces under the Lend-Lease program, it flew numerous missions on the Eastern Front. In November 1942, this aircraft was shot down by German forces and crash-landed in Lake Obozero, where it remained submerged for over 50 years.

Recovered in the 1990s, the aircraft underwent an extensive restoration that brought it back to flying condition while preserving its historical integrity. The restoration maintained original components, including battle damage, to reflect its authentic wartime service. After restoration, the P-40E flew again in 2014 and was registered as OO-WHK in Belgium, where it made its public debut at the Stampe Fly-In in Antwerp in May 2024.
